6 Things You Cannot Miss This Weekend in the Twin Cities (July 18-20)

Summer is hitting its peak stride here in Minnesota, and while the Great Minnesota Get-Together is still a few weeks out, this weekend’s lineup proves you do not have to wait for the Fair to find serious fun. From massive music festivals on the river to intimate art fairs in our most historic parks, the Twin Cities are buzzing with energy from July 18th through the 20th. Whether you are looking to jam out to international rock stars or simply pet a llama with a craft brew in hand, we have curated the perfect list of local happenings to keep your calendar full and your spirits high.

One of the biggest draws this weekend is undoubtedly the return of the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival at Harriet Island Regional Park. After a smash-hit inaugural year, the fest is back July 18-20 with a lineup that screams summer anthem. We are talking heavy hitters like Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Hozier taking the stage by the Mississippi River. If massive crowds aren’t your vibe, head over to Minnehaha Falls Park for the Minnehaha Falls Art Fair. Running all three days, this free event transforms the scenic park into a vibrant gallery with nearly 150 artist booths, food trucks, and plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained while you browse unique local creations.

For those who love a good throwback, the Twin Cities Record Show is taking over the Haralson Room at Minneapolis Cider Co. on Saturday from 12-4 p.m. Sip on a crisp cider while you dig through crates of vinyl, cassettes, and vintage tees—it is a crate-digger’s paradise. If you prefer your entertainment a bit more dynamic, check out the Dances at the Lake Festival at Lyndale Park Gardens on Friday evening. Now in its 23rd year, this free event showcases incredible performances from local professional and youth dance companies against the beautiful backdrop of the Rose Garden.

Rounding out the weekend are two unique community gatherings. On Saturday, head to Forgotten Star Brewing for a Summer Market pop-up featuring over 30 vendors and a collaboration with 3rd Lair that includes open skate sessions and a “cash for tricks” contest. Then, wrap up your Sunday at the same brewery for Llamas At The Brewery. Yes, you read that right—Llama Mama MN is bringing real live llamas for you to meet and pet from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is the perfect quirky end to a packed weekend. After all that excitement, you might be ready to head home and whip up a comforting family favorite casserole to recharge for the week ahead.
