Minneapolis police have apprehended a suspect connected to the brazen August shooting that shocked the city. On Monday night, officers arrested twenty-four-year-old Trayveion Alvin Green, who now faces serious charges including second-degree murder and attempted murder. The attack, which took place in broad daylight on August 26th near Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, claimed the life of thirty-five-year-old Gregory Sweeten and left six others injured. According to the criminal complaint, Green allegedly exited a vehicle armed with a rifle and fired over two dozen rounds at a group standing on the sidewalk near Clinton Avenue and 29th Avenue South.
Police Chief Hopes Arrest Brings Justice As Community Heals
While a clear motive for the attack has not yet been revealed, the arrest marks a significant step forward in the investigation. Green appeared in court on Tuesday where his bail was set at two million dollars, and he is scheduled to return next month. He is the third individual charged in this case, joining two alleged accomplices who were arrested on the day of the incident for aiding an offender. Police Chief Brian O’Hara expressed hope that this development brings some measure of peace to the victims’ families, acknowledging the chilling impact the violence had on the community, especially occurring so close to an occupied school.
