Tragedy struck a Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood late Wednesday night when a fire tore through a local duplex, leaving one person dead. The Minneapolis Fire Department received the emergency call shortly after eleven-fifteen in the evening, rushing to the scene on 22nd Avenue Northeast, just west of Central Avenue. Upon arrival, crews were met with intense flames visible from both the first and second floors of the residence. Firefighters battled the blaze and initiated a search of the property, where they sadly discovered the body of an unidentified man on the first floor. This heartbreaking incident marks the third fire-related fatality in Minneapolis this year.
Investigation Underway As Residents Are Displaced
While the loss of life is devastating, officials confirmed that no other injuries were reported from the scene. The fire did, however, displace three other individuals who lived in the building, leaving them without a home for the night. Fire investigators are currently working to determine exactly what sparked the deadly blaze, but the cause remains unknown at this time. As the community mourns the victim, whose name has not yet been released, authorities continue their inquiry into the events that led to this fatal night in Northeast Minneapolis.
