Duluth Has Its Own Batman. The Mystery Behind the City’s Masked Nighttime Figure

Duluth has an unexpected nighttime visitor, and he seems to have stepped straight out of Gotham City. Known online as Duluth Batman, the mysterious figure has been appearing around the Minnesota city in a dark costume and cape, filming videos at familiar landmarks and sharing them on TikTok. Since making his first appearances in August 2026, he has attracted thousands of curious viewers while keeping his real identity hidden. His nighttime adventures have featured everything from Canal Park to the Aerial Lift Bridge, turning ordinary city scenery into superhero-style backdrops. The character has even inspired a playful online rivalry involving Duluth Joker and Superior Catwoman. Here’s what to know about the masked figure and the growing story behind him.

Duluth has gained an unusual nighttime attraction in the form of a masked figure dressed like the Dark Knight. Since mid-August 2026, an anonymous TikTok creator has been roaming the city in a dark costume and cape, filming videos when the streets are quieter. The creator describes himself as a night person who enjoys exploring Duluth after dark. His goal is to make entertaining, atmospheric videos that highlight the city’s scenery and give familiar places a cinematic touch. He also sees an opportunity to showcase Duluth in a way that other local creators may not be doing. The idea has started attracting attention online, turning an ordinary nighttime outing into a small local mystery. For now, entertainment is his main motivation, although he has expressed interest in taking on a charitable role if he can partner with an established organization.

Part of the appeal of Duluth Batman’s videos comes from the way they transform recognizable local scenery into something that feels pulled from a superhero film. The Aerial Lift Bridge, with its dramatic structure and position over Lake Superior, provides a natural backdrop for the character’s nighttime appearances. Canal Park has also featured prominently, including footage of him inline skating through the area after it has quieted down for the evening. Other locations include Enger Tower and the DWP Railroad Tunnel near Ely’s Peak. One of his most popular videos had gathered just under 250,000 views when the Star Tribune reported on him. It shows him skating past the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center before cutting to Harbor Cam footage of him jumping stairs and riding along the north pier. The combination of local landmarks, cape movements, skating and dramatic camera angles gives the videos their distinctive look. Rather than relying on elaborate effects, he uses Duluth’s existing scenery to create the atmosphere.

The mystery surrounding Duluth Batman is not just part of the costume. The person playing the character has made a deliberate effort to keep his real identity private. He declined to meet the Star Tribune reporter in person and instead agreed to a brief phone conversation arranged through email. Even that interview came with an unusual condition: he needed to keep it short because maintaining the character’s raspy Batman voice was difficult. He also said he was concerned about his personal safety, offering another reason for staying unidentified. His approach allows him to build an online character without making his private life part of the story. While he is currently focused on entertainment, he has said he would consider a more charitable role if an established organization offered an opportunity to work together. That possibility could eventually take the character beyond social media, but he has not announced a specific partnership or charitable project.

Duluth Batman is no longer the only costumed character attracting attention in the area. A TikTok personality calling himself Duluth Joker has appeared online, claiming to have a dispute with Batman and publicly challenging him to meet. Joker declined to speak with the Star Tribune unless Batman’s face was revealed, arguing that the two characters were two sides of the same coin. That response has added another layer to the playful rivalry, although there is no indication that the dispute extends beyond their online personas. A third character has also entered the picture. Superior Catwoman posted a video warning both Batman and Joker to stay on their side of the bridge, accompanied by the declaration that Superior belongs to the cat. The reference plays on the close relationship between Duluth, Minnesota, and neighboring Superior, Wisconsin, which sit across the St. Louis Bay from each other. Together, the three accounts have created a lighthearted superhero-and-villain storyline rooted in the Twin Ports, giving local viewers another reason to follow what happens next.
